LONDON: Liverpool missed the chance to return to the top of the English Premier League after a 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

The Reds run by Jurgen Klopp started brilliantly at the Etihad with Mohamed Salah completing the 13th minute penalty.

Gabriel Jesus equalized for Pep Guardiola and City missed a golden opportunity to lead the game when Kevin De Bruyne failed to take advantage of a penalty three minutes before the break.

The combined points of the two teams that won the last three titles of the league saw Liverpool now in third place, one point behind the leaders, while City were five points and played less than one game.

“Great football game. Two great teams ready for a big fight – the energy of both teams is amazing.

“We are very good and dangerous. There are times when we do too many long passes,” Klopp said.

For Guardiola, the draw was acceptable, especially after his team failed to complete a penalty.

“We scored a good goal and unfortunately missed a penalty kick.

“In a match against an opponent like Liverpool, if your penalty is missed, it will be harder,” Guardiola said.
