Ibrahimovic Will Return To Sweden Squad
STOCKHOLM: Zlatan Ibrahimovic is currently in talks with Swedish head coach Janne Andersson about the potential to return with the national team, the Swedish Football Association said today.
The news came just a day after the 39-year-old, who retired from international football after the 2016 World Cup, said he was open to once again wearing his country’s jersey.
The Swedish FA said Janne Andersson met with Ibrahimovic to discuss the possibility after the player’s good performance with AC Milan.
He leads the list of Serie A scorers with 10 goals this season, more than half of Milan’s total 19 goals.
“When Zlatan opens the door to play with the national team, it is normal and important for us to meet and discuss it as soon as possible,” Andersson said in a statement.
“The meeting was good and fruitful, and we agreed to continue the discussion.”
Ibrahimovic expressed his desire to return to the international stage yesterday after winning the Swedish Annual Player of the Year Award for the 12th time.
