EPL Continued Despite Quarantine

LONDON: English Premier League (EPL) football and other elite sports in England are allowed to continue despite the new rules of curfew announced by the British government today.

Nearly 56 million Englishmen will return to full curfews to curb COVID-19, likely until mid-February, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on television.

The approach, including the closure of secondary and primary schools, will take effect tomorrow, he said, after Scotland announced similar measures shortly thereafter.

But the UK government’s release list allows “elite sports-related people (and their coaches if necessary, or parents / guardians if under the age of 18) – or elite sports officials – to compete and practice.”
