EURO: France Lost Dembele
BUDAPEST: France lost the services of Ousmane Dembele for the remainder of Euro 2020 after an X-ray scan showed the Barcelona winger’s knee injury would not heal in time, the French Football Federation (FFF) said today.
Dembele, 24, was injured in the final minutes of his side’s 1-1 draw with Hungary in Budapest after being included as a substitute.
X-ray tests showed he could not return before the end of the Euros.
“The period for him to recover is not the same as continuing to put him in the squad,” FFF said.
Dembele came off the bench in both of France’s games at the Euros.
He replaced Adrien Rabiot in the final minutes of the opening match against Germany and again came in to replace Rabiot in the 57th minute in Budapest as France trailed but suffered an injury in the 87th minute.
