Fernandes Redeems United’s Pride
MANCHESTER: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists Manchester United are back on track after redeeming an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Istanbul Basaksehir with a 4-1 win at Old Trafford.
Solskjaer’s men were stunned 2-1 by the Turkish club in the Group H Champions League match in Istanbul earlier this month.
Bruno Fernandes opened the scoring at Old Trafford as early as the seventh minute with a long-range attempt before doubling it 12 minutes later.
He had a chance to complete the hat-trick but let Marcus Rashford take the penalty kick for United’s third goal before the break.
Basaksehir player Deniz Turuc closed the gap on a free kick, but Daniel James confirmed United’s victory in the final minutes of the game.
“I think in the first half we have seen their direction, they want to play and enjoy it.
“It was Champions League night at Old Trafford, you want them to enjoy it. We scored some beautiful goals, I’m satisfied,” Solskjaer said.
After recording their third win in four group stage matches, United now need just one point from the remaining two games to advance to the last 16.
The next match is against Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.
