Konate Strengthens Liverpool’s Defense
LONDON: Liverpool newcomer Ibrahima Konate has given an assurance that he can strengthen the Reds’ defense.
Konate joined Liverpool for £ 36million from RB Leipzig in a bid for Jurgen Klopp’s squad to forget the frustrations of the 2020-21 campaign.
Konate is expected to pair up with the increasingly fit Virgil Van Dijk after having to forget as big last season due to injury.
“I’m big, I’m strong and I’m not afraid of the ball. I can score more often with my feet than my head, it’s a little odd! That’s me!
“I have this quality, but I have to work hard at all times as a good defender.
“I’ve watched the English Premier League and everyone knows the intensity, the strength of the players. It’s tough but I love the challenge,” said Konate, nicknamed ‘Ibou’.
The 22-year-old defender will replace Georginio Wijnaldum who moved to Paris Saint-Germain.
“Call me Ibou because when I was little my mother called me‘ Ibou, Ibou, Ibou ’,” he said.
