Liverpool Say Goodbye To Melwood

LONDON: Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool club say goodbye emotionally to their historic training center, Melwood as the English Premier League (EPL) champions are ready to move to a new headquarters.

Melwood has been a club base for over 70 years with a generation of Anfield players honing their talents on the training ground there.

But because it can no longer develop the area, the Reds will move the main team to a new 50 million pound AXA Training Center near Kirby, outside Liverpool, next week.

The new 9,200 square meter training center has state-of-the-art facilities including three training fields, an indoor hall, two gyms, hydrotherapy and rehabilitation facilities.

Melwood was sold last year to a company that will build a home in the area.

Klopp and his coaching staff were there to close the doors of one of the most famous training centers in world football.

“Emotions are mixed, very mixed. I am happy to go to Kirkby but honestly very sad to leave Melwood,” Klopp said on the Liverpool website.

“It’s very strange. I haven’t thought deeply about it so far, but my PA (personal assistant) has already removed all my belongings from the office. So I realized step by step this place already looks different.

“I will miss him, but that’s what he should be. Melwood is great, it matters – an important place in my life, I will miss him. But Kirkby will be great.”
