Mbappe Helps PSG Reach Final
Kylian Mbappe clarified his comments that he considered inconsistent performances to be the main reason for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to hand over the Ligue 1 throne to Lille.
The French international scored twice – shortly after returning from injury – against Montpellier in the semi -finals of the PSG Coupe de France earlier this morning.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side advanced through a 6-5 penalty shootout after being tied 2-2.
PSG, who won the Trophee des Champions earlier this season, certainly want to ensure another trophy does not slip out of their grasp.
Lille are now three points clear at the top with just two games remaining, which means four points as a result of meetings with Saint-Etienne and Angers will guarantee their title.
However, speaking after meeting Montpellier, Mbappe considered that the extraordinary performance would not be enough for Lille if PSG were more consistent in terms of performance.
“If we fail to win the title, it’s because we let it go, not because the opponent won,” he told Eurosport 2.
Mbappe later detailed his comment on Instagram by explaining that Lille deserved the title and PSG had to blame themselves.
He wrote: “#Respect. Lille would have been great champions if they had been crowned champions but with eight defeats, it’s the main reason we lost this title, we’re the only ones to take responsibility.”
PSG will face Reims early on Monday morning to determine if they can still challenge Lille until the final day of the match.
Meanwhile, Rumilly Vallieres and Monaco will grab another French Cup final slot, early tomorrow morning.
