Pogba Likely To Play Against Basaksehir
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has denied Dean Henderson wants a loan transfer next January, revealing that Paul Pgba may be brought down again to face Istanbul Basaksehir in the Champions League (UCL) early tomorrow morning.
Last weekend, The Sun reported that goalkeeper Henderson wanted another loan transfer to enable him to be selected in the England squad ahead of Euro 2020 next year.
Henderson excelled with Sheffield United in the English Premier League (EPL) last season but agreed to sign a long-term contract with United after returning to Old Trafford.
The 23-year-old has only been relegated to two EFL Cup matches and one UCL appearance in Istanbul this season as David de Gea is still the top pick in the position.
Henderson is expected to be dropped as United take a revenge mission against the Turkish champions in a Group H match early tomorrow morning and Solskjaer said the goalkeeper would be given more chances after this.
He said in a press conference: “Dean wants to stay at Man United and play for Man United.
“I don’t see where the logic is he will only play one more game before Christmas. Do you realize how many matches we have?
“He trained well. He has the potential to be among the best. I do not want to accept such an excuse to determine whether he will be dropped or not (early tomorrow morning),” he said.
There were more questions about speculation regarding Pogba after the midfielder was unlisted as United beat West Brom 1-0 last weekend, which Solskjaer said was due to injury.
The Frenchman is likely to be dropped off at Old Trafford to serve a team that beat them 1-2 at home earlier this month.
Jesse Lingard, on the other hand, was not listed because he had to undergo self-isolation after being in close contact with an individual who was found to be positive for coronavirus.
Asked about Pogba’s fitness level, Solskjaer said: “We hope he can be dropped. We will see a report tomorrow. (Luke) Shaw, (Phil) Jones are not listed. Lingard is undergoing isolation for being a positive case contact.”
