Tuchel, Thiago Silva, Giroud Renewed Contracts
LONDON: Chelsea rewarded manager Thomas Tuchel’s success by winning the Champions League in the five months he took charge of the club with a new contract until 2024 today.
Veteran defender Thiago Silva, 36, and French striker Olivier Giroud, 34, also extended their contracts at Stamford Bridge until 2022.
Tuchel joined the club in January with the Blues squad ninth in the Premier League.
But Chelsea changed after the presence of Tuchel, finishing in the top four and winning the European club’s biggest rivalry against Manchester City in Porto.
“I never imagined anything bigger for a contract extension. I am grateful to have had that experience and very happy to be part of the Chelsea family,” Tuchel said.
“There’s still a lot to come and we can’t wait for the next step with bigger ambitions.”
Tuchel was sacked by Paris Saint-Germain in December despite winning two Ligue 1 titles in his first two seasons and leading the French club to their first Champions League final in 2020.
The 47 -year -old was given a deal for just 18 months when he arrived in London, but his success in guiding Chelsea to a second European Cup gave him a chance to extend his contract.
